I had the pleasure of attending Newstalk 1010's In-depth and interactive event this past Tuesday. The event was for guest's and VIPs who either listen to or sponsor the radio station. CFRB is Toronto's oldest broadcasting station, and still operating today. Toronto is a great city, with a lot to offer. It's clean and well run compared to most other big cities throughout North America. The people are friendly, and the food was amazing. I showed up to the event when the doors opened at 6:00 in the afternoon. The event was held at the exhibition grounds around the corner from the Toronto FC football stadium. I gave the staff my ticket and in return received a complimentary drink ticket. Newstalk 1010 is an all talk political station run by mostly conservatives. I listen to the station from time to time and the amount of people that call in amazes me. Last. This year was the 7th annual event hostessed by the station. Complimentary food and a gin tasting station was available for all attendees. Fans were able to meet many hosts, chat for a few minutes and take a quick picture (or selfie). I had the pleasure of meeting Jerry Agar who runs his show from 9 am to 12. He is a very passionate host who enjoys a good debate and often expresses his love for the country. Barb Digulio runs her show called the nightside from 7 pm-10 pm that mostly talks about day to day things going on in the city and world, guests often join Barb on air (employment lawyers, marketing guru, etc). Meeting Ryan and Jay from the Rush was also a pleasure. These two have their own show during rush hour from 4-7 pm. Ryan and Jay co-host and also talk about issues around the city and country. They also encourage listeners to call in and discuss various situations that go on in our everyday lives (how much would you spend on a bachelor party). After the a short meet and greet guests entered the theatre to grab a seat and enjoy the main event. The panel then gathered at the front to start the discuss. This years panelist included: John Moore (Moore in the Morning 4:30-9 A.M), Christie Blanchford (Columnist), Jerry Agar (Jerry Agar Show 9-12 P.M), Jim Richards (ShowGram 12-2), Even Soloman (2-4) The rush (Ryan and Jay 4-7 pm), Barb DiGulio (The NightSide 7-10 p.m) and John Poole (Pole Position 10-11 p.m). During the panel each host was asked about specific events throughout their career, and of course included personal and comical stories to allow us listeners to see the hosts from a different perspective. It was interesting to see how pationnate each host is about their job. What you hear on the radio is unscripted, which is great, but seeing the hosts in front of you helped reinforce this idea. This event was completely unfiltered. Former host, and the current mayor of Toronto was the special guest of the night. John Tory is a great mayor for the city and keeps the Toronto running well. He did make an announcement that when he is done his term as mayor, he will consider the offer to re-join the Newstalk 1010 team. When the evening commenced, the fans left the theatre a little richer with emotion and a pair of limited edition socks! Overall it was an amazing event. The host's were welcoming, as always. You can tell they enjoy it almost as much as us fans. Speaking with Ryan, he commented on how he is always amazed at the amount of fans that show up to the event. For the price of the ticket, the experience you receive is amazing and it is a fantastic way to interact with the radio station. If I have the chance, I would definitely attend again. Newstalk 1010 CFRB has a great line up and great topics so tune in any-day of the week, worldwide on iheartradio.
